Elizabeth Joy “EJ” Cortez is an Articling Student at Samantha Eisen & Company for the2026-2027 Articling term.  EJ completed her LL.M. through Osgoode Professional Development in 2026, and is a licensed lawyer in the Philippines, where she practiced until December 2024.

Before joining the firm, EJ developed experience in Philippine family law and in matters involving violence against women and children. This background informs her commitment to trauma-informed, client-centred legal service. She understands the importance of creating a respectful and supportive environment for clients navigating difficult legal issues, and approaches each matter with care, clarity, and sensitivity.

EJ brings an international perspective, legal research and drafting skills, and a genuine interest in building lasting client and community relationships. She looks forward to growing alongside the firm’s team and contributing to its continued service to clients.
